Baked Pork Chops paired with Mushroom Sauce or Sauteed Apples

Why two different accompaniments? Well, once I remember my husband saying, "I'm not eating fruit with meat." He says he didn't say it; but, well.....

Gotta say right off the bat, make sure you are buying a quality pork chop. I thought I was, but sadly, these were not. The end product was ok, but not as tender as we like. You can do everything right, but the end result depends on the quality of the products.

Marinate the pork chops in milk or buttermilk for several hours. Take the chops out of the fridge and let them come to room temp. I also used crimini mushrooms and some pork seasoning.

Slice the crimini mushrooms and get ready to saute them in olive oil and butter!

Toss the sliced mushrooms into the skillet with the olive oil and butter.

After the mushrooms are nice and browned, remove them with a slotted spoon and leave the butter, olive oil, mushroom goodness in the skillet. Dredge the pork chops in seasoned flour.

Saute the chops in the skillet with the butter, olive oil, and mushroom goodness, until nice and browned. Remove and place on a paper towel.

Deglaze the skillet with some white wine. Simmer to reduce the wine. Add some milk and the mushrooms, stir and taste to make a nice sauce. Place the chops on top of the sauce, bake in a 350 oven for about an hour.

While the chops were in the oven, I peeled an apple, cut the "cheeks" off, and sliced them. These will be sauteed in butter with some cinnamon and sugar.

Melt some butter in a skillet, add the sliced apples, then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Saute the apples until they are nice and tender. yum, Yum, and YUM! Reminds me of apple pie!

Tonight I made a creamy coleslaw to go with dinner. Plate the chops and present the two options--sweet (apples with cinnamon and sugar) and savory (crimini mushroom sauce)!

The final product! Yes, these are canned green beans, I was just too busy with the rest of dinner to do anything else. Oh, and the Broncos and Miss America--we watch too much TV!!!
